Dolly Parton escaped the struggles of her life early on thanks to her inventive and innovative imagination. The songs she wrote were composed before she was able to write or read. After getting her first guitar at age 8, she started performing on radio stations in Knoxville in Tennessee. The same year she released her debut recording for Gold Band Records a tiny independent label. In high school she established herself local, but longed for a larger stage. When she was graduating in 1964, she relocated to Nashville. Dumb Blonde (1967) and Something Fishy (1968) were the first two albums to chart on Monument Records. Porter Wagoner, a syndicated TV show host at the time, was in search for a female singer for his show. Parton joined Grand Ole Opry 1969 after contracting to RCA Records. In 1974, she quit Wagoner's Show because the success of her own songs such as Joshua Coats Of Many Colors or Jolene was surpassing their joint albums.
